Prepared for Tomorrow: Strengthening Givens Through Well Drilling

At the heart of Givens Philanthropy is Givens Grows, an impact area dedicated to undesignated giving that allows Givens Communities to respond where the need is greatest, the opportunity is most meaningful, or the moment is most urgent. From special projects and crisis support to campus emergencies and outreach opportunities, Givens Grows ensures flexibility, responsiveness, and care for our residents and neighbors alike.

That mission came vividly to life in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, which devastated much of Western North Carolina. As communities across the region faced uncertainty and disruption, Givens Communities remained steadfast in its commitment to caring for residents and supporting neighbors. Even amid the challenges brought on by the storm, leadership looked ahead—asking not only how to respond in the moment, but how to strengthen resilience for the future.

In response, a critical sustainability project was launched: the drilling of wells at both the Givens Estates campus in Asheville and the Givens Highland Farms campus in Black Mountain. These wells were initiated to help secure reliable, independent water sources, ensuring that Givens campuses are better prepared for future emergencies and environmental challenges. Access to dependable water is essential for health, safety, and daily living, and this investment represents a proactive step toward long-term preparedness.

The Givens Philanthropy Team stepped up during this time of crisis to fund this special project, making the successful completion of the wells possible. Through Givens Grows, philanthropic support was quickly directed where it mattered most—protecting residents, strengthening infrastructure, and safeguarding the continuity of care across campuses. This project will serve residents for years to come, providing peace of mind, operational stability, and an added layer of protection for the entire community.

Today, the impact of this work extends far beyond the immediate response to Hurricane Helene. The wells stand as a testament to the power of generosity and foresight—ensuring that current and future residents of Givens Communities can rely on a safe, sustainable water source no matter what challenges arise.

If this story inspires you, we invite you to consider making a gift to Givens Grows here: givensphilanthropy.org/giving/. Your support empowers Givens Communities to respond swiftly in times of crisis, invest in vital infrastructure, and care for residents and neighbors when it matters most. Together, we can continue growing resilience, compassion, and security for our community—today and for generations to come.
