Getting to Know Leanne: A New Chapter in Philanthropy at Givens Aldersgate
Givens Aldersgate is pleased to welcome Leanne as its new Philanthropy Director—a role that blends her lifelong passion for meaningful work with a deeply personal connection to the mission. With years of experience in nonprofit development and a heartfelt commitment to service, Leanne brings both vision and authenticity to the Foundation. She recently sat down with the Givens Foundation team to answer a series of questions and introduce herself to the Givens community. Below, she shares more about her journey, inspirations, and hopes for the future.
1. What inspired you to pursue a career in philanthropy, and what continues to motivate your work today?
There are three things that people need to live meaningful lives:
- Something to look forward to
- Someone to love
- Meaningful work
For me, work has always been connected to making the world a better place—I need to see the impact of what I do. Philanthropy and nonprofit work have always given me that opportunity. That’s what inspired me, and it’s what continues to motivate me every day.
2. What drew you to the Givens Foundation, and what excites you most about joining the team?
This opportunity allows me to connect the type of work I’ve done throughout my career with a place that matters to me in a very personal way. My family’s experience with a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) has stayed with me in a profound and meaningful way. Joining Givens felt like the ideal moment for those two important parts of my life to come together.
3. Outside of work, what are a few things you enjoy doing that might surprise your new colleagues?
I love to play blackjack and card games—I like to think of myself as a bit of a card shark!
5. What opportunities do you see for growing the impact of philanthropy at the Givens Foundation?
I see a real opportunity to invite more people—friends, family, organizations, and individuals outside of Givens Aldersgate—into the story of this wonderful community. There is such a strong culture here, one that has been nurtured and preserved over many years. Residents are deeply proud of it.
Givens Aldersgate also believes strongly in supporting the nonprofit work happening on our campus, and expanding awareness of that impact will be key to growing philanthropy.
6. What’s one small act of kindness that has stuck with you and shaped how you approach your work?
What has kept me in the nonprofit world is seeing the impact of kindness and mentorship in action. I’ve experienced people in organizations taking an interest in me and in my success—which meant so much.
I appreciated that support so deeply that it’s shaped how I approach my work today. I want to help create those same experiences for others and ensure that spirit of care and encouragement continues.
Leanne’s blend of professional expertise and personal passion makes her a meaningful addition to the Givens Aldersgate community. Her vision reflects not only the power of philanthropy, but also the strength of connection—something that continues to define and enrich life at Givens.
