Givens Longevity and Brain Health Program to Advance Whole-Person Wellness

Givens Communities announces the launch of the Givens Longevity and Brain Health Program, a major new initiative designed to advance whole-person wellness.

Leading this important effort across all Givens Communities will be Taryn Tindall, who joins us as the director of this new program. Together, this program and role represent Givens’ step toward becoming a regional and national leader in proactive brain health, cognitive wellness, and longevity-focused aging.

Why This Program Matters Across the country, there is growing recognition that longevity is about more than living longer—it is about living better. True wellness means staying engaged, active, curious, and purposeful at every stage of life. While Alzheimer’s and dementia continue to be major public health challenges, research clearly shows that proactive, evidence-based lifestyle choices can strengthen cognitive health and overall vitality.

At Givens, we have long offered outstanding wellness, life enrichment, and health services across our communities. The new Longevity and Brain Health Program is designed to complement and support those existing efforts by providing consistency, coordination, and a shared framework of evidence-based practices. Through education, resources, and collaboration, the program will help residents and team members alike take practical, proactive steps to enhance brain health, longevity, and quality of life.

About the Program and Role The Longevity and Brain Health Program unites our strengths in wellness, dining, life enrichment, nursing, and resident services under a shared focus on cognitive vitality and prevention. The initiative will increase awareness of dementia as a public health issue, expand education for residents and team members, and promote strategies that support long, healthy, and purposeful living.

Through evidence-based approaches including brain-healthy nutrition, physical activity, creative engagement, stress management, and social connection, this program will enhance quality of life and serve as a meaningful differentiator for Givens in the senior living marketplace.

This position will serve residents and members across all Givens Life Plan Communities, affordable housing, Givens LifeMinistries, Givens Home First, and Givens Choice, as well as team members through ongoing dementia and brain health education.

About Taryn Tindall Taryn brings more than 15 years of progressive leadership experience in senior living, clinical services, and resident wellbeing. Most recently, she served as Director of Wellbeing Services at Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community in Asheville, where she launched innovative programs to promote whole-person health, built strategic partnerships with local organizations, and developed data-driven business cases for new services such as respite care and art therapy for residents with cognitive impairment.

A Registered Nurse, Certified Dementia Practitioner, and licensed Nursing Home Administrator, Taryn is recognized for advancing a culture of collaboration and innovation, uniting teams across disciplines to improve outcomes and strengthen community life. She also is completing her Master of Business Administration at Western Carolina University (expected December 2025) and serves on the Age-Friendly Buncombe County Advisory Committee, reflecting her deep commitment to leadership in aging innovation.

Strategic Value This program advances our mission of Creating Community, Empowering Lives and aligns closely with several of Givens’ strategic pillars:

  • Operational & Service Excellence: Enhancing knowledge and resources to strengthen brain health and preventive wellness.
  • People & Culture: Providing consistent, organization-wide training that builds competence, confidence, and compassion.
  • Expanding Our Impact: Positioning Givens Communities as a thought leader in longevity, wellness innovation, and dementia prevention.

We believe this initiative will not only improve quality of life and independence for residents but also serve as a meaningful differentiator, demonstrating that Givens is committed to investing in proactive prevention strategies.
