At Givens Highland Farms, a shared love of photography brings residents together in a meaningful way. Twice each month, on the first and third Monday at 1:00 p.m., members of the GHf64 Photo Club gather to share images, stories, and connection. Recently, the Givens Foundation team was honored to join one of these meetings and witness the creativity and community that define the group.
The Photography Club is led by David Hearne, a Givens Highland Farms resident with a deep passion for photography. The club’s official name, GHf64 Photo Club, is a nod to the smallest aperture available in large format view cameras at the time. The name reflects the group’s shared conviction that photographs should celebrate, rather than disguise, the medium’s unrivaled ability to present the world as it is. That philosophy carries through every meeting as residents share not only their photographs, but also the stories and moments behind each image.

As David explains, “There are only two rules of the group: no camera snobs, and positive comments only.” He also emphasizes, “This is a safe place for everyone to share.” The club welcomes participants of all experience levels and encourages an atmosphere of support, curiosity, and appreciation.
The GHf64 Photo Club is one of many groups across the Givens Highland Farms campus where residents come together to build meaningful relationships and foster a sense of belonging. This spirit of community aligns closely with the mission of the Givens Foundation, which seeks to create opportunities for connection and shared purpose.
The Givens Foundation warmly welcomes photographs of residents and community members that may be shared through notecards or media publications. Images can be emailed to JoAnn Lindfors, Philanthropy Communications and Stewardship Associate, at [email protected]. Please share images if you feel they may help celebrate the people and community of Givens.
Together, we continue to build community, creativity, and connection while uplifting one another, one photograph at a time.
