MLK Prayer Breakfast to Demonstrate Power of Community

Givens Communities and its Philanthropy Department will once again serve as platinum sponsor for the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast, to be held this Saturday, January 17, at the Crowne Plaza Resort in west Asheville.

Presented by the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Association of Asheville & Buncombe County, this year’s theme is “Celebrating 45 Years of Resilience – Marching Toward the Dream.” Givens Communities residents and team members are planning to attend the sold out event.

Association founder and board president Dr. Oralene Simmons said this anniversary is “more than a celebration of resilience, it is a reminder that we are the beloved community he imagined and that together we carry the work forward.”

Givens Philanthropy supports the MLK Association, knowing that we are better and more creative when we work together. We harness the power of community for the greatest possible impact through collaboration, strong relationships, and embracing diversity.

The speaker will be Mike Kelly, known for helping individuals lead with purpose, integrity, and service. He is a Trustee Emeritus of Mars Hill University and an active Rotarian. Kelly brings decades of leadership experience and a deep commitment to community uplift — values that reflect Dr. King’s vision for justice and collective responsibility.
